Metropolis Building

French inspiration.
A remarkable building, the Edificio Metrópolis was built at the beginning of the XXth century for an insurance company ‘La Union y el Fenix’, at the junction of these two main arteries : the Calle de Alcala and the Gran Via. The facade is decorated with allegorical statues evoking commerce, architecture, industry and mining. The circular tower is topped with a remarkable cupola upon which sits a bronze statue of the Fénix, symbol of the insurance company. The Metropolis company purchased the premises in the 1970’s.
